1. Describe the item
What it is, its material, its use. A photo can help (optional).
2. The engine follows the nomenclature

Frequently asked questions
What is an HS code?
The Harmonized System (HS) is the World Customs Organization's nomenclature. Its first 6 digits are shared by more than 200 countries and economies; each country or union then adds its own detail: 8 digits for the EU Combined Nomenclature, 10 for TARIC.
Is the tool free?
Yes. The no-account trial is free, for the European Union. The free account then gives you 10 credits, with no credit card, to classify for 5 markets: European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Norway and Canada.
How is the code found?
The engine works down the nomenclature step by step (chapter, heading, subheading), based on the official headings and notes, as General Interpretative Rule 1 requires. The texts used are cited with the result.
What if the tool asks me a question?
The nomenclature sometimes separates cases by a fact your description does not specify: material, weight, use… Answer, or choose “I don't know”: nothing is chosen for you.
Is the proposed code guaranteed?
It is a decision aid, justified by the official texts. The declarant remains responsible for the code on the customs declaration (Union Customs Code, art. 15). For legal certainty, you can ask customs for a Binding Tariff Information (BTI) decision.
