Every component classified, every code justified

Spare parts, sub-assemblies, machines, motors, seals: CrossbordIA reads the section and chapter notes before every choice, applies the GIRs in order and asks you the missing technical question (head, power, construction) instead of guessing. For the EU, the United Kingdom, the United States, Norway and Canada.

    The pitfalls of industrial classification

    🔧

    Machine part or separate article?

A screw intended for your pump is still a screw (7318), and an O-ring is still an article of rubber (4016): the notes to Section XVI exclude parts of general use. A pump casing, on the other hand, follows the pump (8413.91).

    🏗

    Internal designations

“GMP-75 casing rev. C” means something to your workshop, not to customs. The reference and the trade name are never used to classify: only the description and the declared attributes count.

    📋

    Highly technical criteria

Hexagon head or hexagon socket, close-coupled or not, power above or below 7.5 kW: the subheading often depends on a detail missing from the product sheet.

    🌍

    One code per market

Beyond the first 6 digits, each country has its own subdivisions: the same O-ring is classified differently in the United States depending on whether or not it is fitted to a vehicle. Incorrect classification exposes you to reassessments and penalties.

    Sector features

CrossbordIA asks the questions a customs engineer would

From metals (Section XV) to machinery and electrical equipment (Section XVI), every choice rests on a text quoted word for word.

    💬

The technical question, at the right time

When the description does not settle a choice between two subheadings (close-coupled or not, hexagon head or hexagon socket), the engine stops and asks THE question, with the text that prompts it and the codes at stake. Your answer resumes the classification at the level where it stopped.

    TARGETED QUESTIONS
    📦

    Bulk classification from Excel

Import your list of components in Excel or CSV. Each line is classified individually from its description and attributes; duplicates within the batch are classified once.

    EXCEL · CSV
    🔬

    Declared material, never guessed

Stainless steel, aluminium, bronze, cast iron: for an “of <material>” subheading, the metal that predominates by weight is read from the composition you declare. The photo never establishes the material.

    SECTION XV
    📝

    Your conventions, remembered once

“VX range screws have hexagon heads”, “GMP pumps are close-coupled”: remember a fact for similar items, for all destinations or just one. An instruction never sets a code, and declared data always prevails.

    PERMANENT INSTRUCTIONS
    🔍

    Exclusion notes read first

The notes to Sections XV and XVI and to Chapters 84 and 85 are read before the heading is chosen and cited in the supporting document. A part of general use does not end up as a “machine part”.

A question rather than a guessed code

CrossbordIA asks you what is missing, not the other way round

When the description does not settle a choice between two subheadings, CrossbordIA stops at the last established level and asks a precise question, quoting the wording that prompts it. Your answer resumes the classification at that level without replaying the rest; and you can undo an answer.

This way you avoid default classifications in “other” headings: every digit of the code rests on a fact.

📋 Codes at stake — The question comes with the codes still possible and their official wording.

📋 Precise product sheets, fewer questions — Material, construction, power, dimensions: the more precise your sheet, the fewer questions the engine needs to ask. The free file check flags missing descriptions and duplicate references before launch.

Answer once, apply to the whole range

Your ranges share characteristics that customs asks you about every time. Tick “Remember this answer for other items”: the fact is saved with its scope (code level, objects concerned, all destinations or just one) and applied to similar items. Within a batch, identical questions are grouped so that you only answer once.

⚠️ A fact, never a code — An instruction replaces an answer, not the reasoning: the engine always applies the texts, and data declared on the item prevails over the instruction.

    Use case

From an ERP export to the customs file

Illustrative example: an equipment manufacturer exports its parts to the EU, the United States and the United Kingdom. Its designations are written for the workshop, not for customs.

    01

    Import of the ERP export

Reference, designation, material, weight: the file is imported, you map the columns, and the free check flags incomplete lines.

    02

    Classification of the references

Each component is classified; the engine stops on a precise question when a decisive fact is missing.

    Processing runs in the background

    03

    Grouped questions, remembered answers

Identical questions are grouped. Your customs manager answers once and can remember the answer for the whole range.
